Environmental Auditing
Auditing of environmental practices is classified into field inspections and records accounting. A thorough field audit requires years of experience and diplomacy in asking the judicious questions. Hill West auditors are well-versed and practiced in environmental regulations for air, water, and waste. We commonly conduct field audits under attorney–client privilege and are scrupulous in matters of client confidentiality. Audit findings are always discussed with your on-site managers prior to documentation to ensure that the correct observation and conclusions are conferred. Our professionals have conducted numerous field audits for the oil and gas industry, electrical power plants, manufacturing facilities, and the mining industry over the last 20 years.
Many regulatory programs, such as Toxic Release Inventories (TRI), require accounting of hazardous materials, air emissions, water pollutants, and hazardous waste disposal. Representative accounts of these pollutants to air, water, and land require a complete understanding of not only the chemistry and the regulations but also of purchasing and stock inventories. Our system of pollutant accounting is based on interlinked Excel® spreadsheets. These workbooks are explicit enough to capture the necessary information and perform the required calculations but sufficiently straightforward to allow your facility to eventually take over these accounting tasks.
